Kit Name

The Kit Name is used for organizing you and your archery kit, allowing you to have multiple kits or setups. This information is saved to a simple database.

Confusion can occur about what is saved between launches of the application, so for this reason it is recommended that you name each different combination of components (i.e. bow, arrow) and sub-components (i.e. release, point, fletches).

The Kit Name is the top level reference in the application's kit database. When a new kit is created, it starts with a copy of the entire currently active kit.

Components are not shared may be shared across kits, each component being references by its given name.

The archer's grouping performance or form is also associated with the Kit Name.

Kit Identifier

The kit name always has an kit identifier appended in square brackets:

Target Archery Kit [Kit1]

These are generated automatically if omitted on entry of a new name. The kit identifier is appended to all components of the current kit, as if it where an integral part of the component's name - thus "My Awesome Arrow [Kit1]" indicates the arrow is part of the "Kit1" kit.

The trailing digit of the automatically generated kit identifier is incremented with each new kit.

To enter the kit identifier manually, type it after the kit name:

Hunting Kit [Hunt]

The entered text is cleansed, so the following transformations can occur:

Entered Text

"Target Kit"

"   3D Kit  [  3D"

"Clout Kit [Clout #]"

Result

"Target Kit [Kit2]"

"3D Kit [3D]"

"Clout Kit [Clout 3]"

Comments

Add " [Kit2]"

Remove spaces, add "]"

Replace "#" with a kit number

Notice the "#" in the kit identifier part is replace by an automatically generated kit number, a feature that can help in getting a unique kit identifier.

Maximum Kit Name Length

The name length is limited to about 50 character, but anything over say 40 characters becomes a bit unworkable. Characters can include any valid international (UTF) characters and symbols. The kit identifier is limited to about 10 characters.

Drop-Down Menu

Initially the popup Kit Name field will contain four options: "New Record...", "Generic Kit [Kit1]", "Rename Record..." and "Delete Record...". Selecting the "Generic Kit [Kit1]" will load generic defaults which are suitable for getting a feel for the application. Generic kit components may be modified and saved with a new name. When the application is closed, the current setup is saved and then restored on the next launch.

New Record...

When "New Record..." is selected and a kit name entered, the new kit is initialized with a copy the current kit. Kit components may be changed or redefined. Kit components are not shared across different kit - rather a copy made.

Rename Record...

You will be asked to select a record and then proceed to an editing dialog where a new name may be entered. The kit identifier can be changed in the kit name field, however any attempt edit the kit identifier in other name fields will be over written with the original kit identifier.

Delete Record...

Deletes a record unless the selected item is active. You need to first make another record active then try deleting again. Deleting only deletes the record of the Kit and the associated grouping performance, but not any components that make up the kit.

Component Names are Similar but Different

For components and sub-components, the drop-down menu operation is similar.

One difference is that records in the menu may appear without a kit identifier, indicating they are no longer associated with any kit. The currently active component will always have a kit identifier appended. Should an alternative component be selected for the active kit, then the original active component is stripped of its kit identifier and saved back to the database. Should a database record already have this name, then it is over-written.
